Web search

How to let the assistant look things up on the internet, and allow only websites you trust.

When the assistant doesn't know something, it can look it up on the internet during the call. The Web search capability is useful for information that changes or isn't in your documents: for example an office's opening hours or current public data.

How to switch it on

On the Assistant page, in the Capabilities section, switch on the Web search toggle and click Save changes.

Under the toggle is the Allowed domains field:

  • An empty field means the assistant searches the entire internet.
  • Filled-in websites limit the search to them. Click Add domain, type the address (for example example.com) and save. You can add at most 10 websites.

It is safer to allow only websites you trust, for example your own. The assistant then answers from what is really on them. If you have more than 10 websites (for example after a rule change), nothing is removed, but you can add more only after you delete some.

When to use Web search and when Business knowledge

For things that concern your own business and don't change (price list, services, terms), it is better to upload a document to Business knowledge. Web search is a supplement for what you don't have in documents.

If it doesn't work

  • The assistant doesn't search anything. Check that the toggle is on and that you clicked Save changes.
  • It answers from a website you don't want. Fill in Allowed domains so it searches only the pages you chose.
